Desert/Wilderness

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Philippians 4:6‭-‬8 NKJV

The first words of this passage are simple, but they are challenging. But we know that Jesus does not require things of us that we cannot do. That being said, this passage is the key to make it through the desert you find yourself in.

The first step is to get a hold of those thoughts of worry and stress. You chose the thoughts you think, and you have to take hold of those anxious thoughts and begin to change the way you think.

The next step is to start giving thanks! Not for the bad things or for the problem, but for all the things God has promised you. In the middle of your crisis, God has given you peace, provision, health, and whatever else you need! That’s something to be thankful for!

Finally, you ask God. What do you need? What are you desiring? What answers are you seeking? Ask God. But ask in Faith! See, if you do the first two steps, it gets you into Faith. Then, when you ask God, you will receive! And when you ask in faith, you know you have your answer, and that brings the peace that guards your heart.

The last verse in this passage teaches you how to have perspective and maintain your focus on the right things. These are the thoughts you need to be thinking to remain in faith and to remain in peace. If the thoughts don’t line up with this list, take them captive! Meditate on these things and you will see your wilderness changed into the beautiful garden of God.

Be blessed and encouraged!
